Martial Arts and Functional Movement Training have a symbiotic relationship, whereby combing both forms of training completes a harmonious relationship for the mind, body and soul. They both concentrate on core strength, flexibility, fitness and coordination, working muscles, not isolation, but in a coordinated systematic way to engage the entire body’s muscular system simultaneously, delivering fluid motion in an energy efficient manner.
Taekwondo is a Korean Martial Art that literally means, “Way of the Hands and Feet”. Its origins can be traced back to over 2000 years ago and from these ancient beginnings has grown into an Olympic sport.
Koryo Taekwondo was founded by Mr Russell Wood 8th Dan Kukkiwon in 1976, he is the clubs Master Instructor and oversees its entire operation. Russell has had nearly 50 years experience in the Martial Arts at a very high level. Koryo Taekwondo Centre has grown to incorporate 13 other clubs through Country Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne. Shepparton Koryo Taekwondo Centre was established in 2000 by Sammy Rachele, 4th Dan Kukkiwon. Sammy is the clubs head instructor in the Goulbourn Valley and has over 22 years experience in Martial Arts. He oversees the operations in East Shepparton and Mooroopna. George Moutafis is the site instructor at Mooroopna, working in closely with Sammy to ensure students receive a high level of tuition in the Art and adopt the ethics that are laid down in the Taekwondo philosophy.
“Tae Kwon Do strives to develop the positive aspects of an individual’s personality: Respect, Courtesy, Goodness, Trustworthiness, Loyalty, Humility, Courage, Patience, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-control, an Indomitable Spirit and a sense of responsibility to help and respect all forms of life”.
Training in both Martial Arts and Functional Fitness, completes a package that will improve the body, mind and spirit, thus empowering the student to cope better with life’s everyday challenges and stresses.
Classes are held at 5 Mill St Mooroopna every Thursday: 4:30pm – 6:00pm for juniors and 6:00pm – 7:30pm for seniors. Once becoming a member of Koryo Taekwondo Centre, students are free to train at any of the Koryo schools around Victoria. Sammy Rachele’s classes are held every Monday and Wednesday afternoons with competition training every Friday out at 415 Central Ave, thus keen students have the potential to be training at least four days a week with an instructor.
